Unity with others is a requirement, but uniformity is not. We can have loving, encouraging, and enlightening relationships with those we disagree with, but we must enter by putting ourselves second and them first. Adam Barnett challenges us to be honest about our selfish tendencies and to put others above ourselves.

God cares how I treat others.
Philippians 2:1-2 NIV
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.
So we learn here that our oneness in Christ is based on being encouraged by:
Philippians 2:3 NIV
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

Philippians 2:4 NIV
not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Our love for others should not just be reactive, but also proactive. We purposely look to sacrifice for others.
Philippians 2:5 NIV
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.
